The flagship Old Blue Overdrive from Oneder Effects, but this time in Seafoam Sparkle with a big ol' Swellers wave logo featured prominently amidst the controls! For those who don't know, Nick (Oneder's founder, designer, head builder, etc) was (is?) in a band called The Swellers that toured the world for over a decade and put out several well-loved records. Figured we'd celebrate that fact, and also share the secrets to Nick's tight, gainy guitar sound. Whether run into a clean amp for low to mid gain sounds, or boosting a high-gain amp, the Old Blue Overdrive has got the whole discography covered.
The Old Blue Overdrive from Oneder Effects quickly became a best-seller and a mainstay on pedalboards all over the world. Now with the updated circuitry in V2, there's no doubt that Old Blue is one of the most versatile and useful drives on the market. It's your always-on. It's the heft, grit, and sparkle you've been missing from other "transparent" pedals you thought you'd like. It's my desert island pedal and I hate to sound cocky, but it's just the best. I made it that way on purpose. I think you'll really like it.
The clipping toggle is where most of the magic happens, with the familiar PLUS setting (more open, gainy, bright) and MINUS (compressed, smooth). V2 offers a new clipping option (labeled V2) that sits perfectly between the original sounds. It's by far my favorite, and dare I say the most "amp-like." Clipping tonal changes are most noticeable at higher gain settings. The weight contour was also upgraded, making it a much more noticeable sweep, and now allows you to cut low end when you go below noon. Finally, Old Blue CAN get more transparent if you need it! This is a great tool when stacking pedals, using thicker sounding pickups, or goosing a high gain amp. Don't fret, the same thick Old Blue V1 sounds are there from noon to max. Don't be afraid to max out the weight knob, it sounds great, and even adds a bit more gain!
Low gain boost, mid-gain overdrive, or saturated high gain sounds, Old Blue does it all, and does it well. And before you ask, YES, Old Blue loves basses and lower tunings! It's what the internet dubbed "The Emo Pedal". Your Nashville session pedal. The pedal that inspires you to finally write that record. Old Blue is your trusty overdrive.
